Yuri's half brother mentions that their father was devoted to Yuri's mother, but we never learn about his first marriage, or how the family ended up so far from Moscow, or how Madame Gromiko knew her, or how Komarovsky came to process the estate, years later. The connection between the characters seems to be Yuri's mother.
