According to myth, Paris was asked to judge which Olympian goddess was deserving of a golden apple meant for "The Fairest." Hera offered power, Athena offered wisdom, Aphrodite offered the beautiful Helen (despite the fact that she was already married). Paris gave the apple to Aphrodite, thus setting in motion the events that led to the Trojan War.
