Frank Langella considers Dawg to be one of his three favourite roles (the other two are Richard Nixon in Frost/Nixon - Il duello (2008) and Skeletor in I dominatori dell'universo (1987)), because he got to not only be a pirate, but a scenery-chewing over-the-top bad guy pirate. Apparently, the man loves being able to just go for broke in a role. However, he described the movie itself in his memoir as the worst he has ever appeared in.
