First of two collaborations of director Herbert Ross and actor-dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov. The films are Dancers (1987) and Due vite una svolta (1977). Baryshnikov' turned down the lead role of Vaslav Nijinsky in Ross' Nijinsky (1980). Instead, Baryshnikov returned to the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) and took up a promotion in the senior position of Artistic Director.
