James Cameron said this film was the natural follow up to Terminator 2 - Il giorno del giudizio (1991). Arnold Schwarzenegger believed it exceeded Terminator 2 - Il giorno del giudizio (1991) technologically, action-wise and in intensity. But when Cameron produced the next Terminator film Terminator - Destino oscuro (2019), he decided to ignore Genisys's storyline, opting for a continuation of his own Terminator 2 story.
