The 911 call to report Katie's bloodied car is heard twice in the movie. Once as a voice-over shortly after Katie's murder, which should have made police look for the two kids in the 911. Then again after the crime weapon's history becomes known, which should have implicated Ray Jr. and his pal right away, and averted Dave's murder - but didn't.
