When Dunbar first finds Stand With a Fist, she is mourning & cutting herself. He tries to approach her. She backs away scared, protesting in the Lakota language, and she continues to as he tries to help her by picking her up. As the character protests she also says 'Don't!' vaguely - an initial clue that she can speak English. When he hears her, Dunbar gets a suprised expression and pauses for one spilt second, but dismisses it after she faints.
