In early 2000, Jason X (2001) was set to begin production for April, Michael De Luca didn't want another Friday film because it would detrimental to Freddy vs. Jason. Michael De Luca hired Mark Protosevich to write a script in four weeks. The studio liked it enough to make it behind Cunningham's back. Robert Englund dropped out of a promising European film to rush back to the States for a makeup test. The movie would begin production in March 2000 in location of Canada. After Protosevich put in his time, his endeavor didn't dissuade Cunningham from proceeding with a Jason in space movie, and the teamup film was put on the back burner. De Luca was so upset, he promised to not make Cunningham the producer of 'Freddy vs. Jason' for rejecting the script. Englund himself was very upset when he heard the movie was pushed back.
