The majority of this film was supposed to be filmed in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming and in and around Jackson Hole but the National Park Service took issue with the placement of some sets, location of some teepees, and other small conformities; so only after a week of filming, rather than dealing with all the Park's demands, Kevin packed up the entire production and moved to South Dakota, costing local jobs with the film in the thousands of dollars. Very few of the Wyoming shots are noticeable in the final film.
