Michael Ritchie was announced as the picture's director in a Columbia Pictures press release dated 17th June 1982 with principal photography being deferred until 15th October 1982. Michael Leeson was reported as the movie's original screenwriter and this is the name that is billed as the film's sole writer in the finished picture. In the end, production filming in the end was delayed, and did not begin until 15th November 1982.
