Unlike the film, Joy Adamson had a reputation for a quick temper and the harsh treatment of her employees. Within a few years after this film was released, Joy had moved to a location some 100 miles to the south so that she could focus on cheetahs and leopards while George remained at their home, continuing his work with lions. While meeting for Christmas and a few other occasions, the Adamsons lived apart for the last decade of Joy's life.
