Before Poe Dameron joined the Resistance, he was a spice smuggler. In another part of the film, Poe and friends visit a planet with a giant worm emerging from the sand. Spice and sandworms are crucial elements of Frank Herbert's Dune novels, which Star Wars was partly based on. After playing Poe, Oscar Isaac appeared in Dune (2021).
