This film's director, Roy Ward Baker, was never particularly happy with the end result. In a 1992 interview he described it as "...a bad picture. It was hopeless and never got off the ground." and stating that the biggest problem was trying to make an ambitious picture like this on a very limited budget, coupled with the bad timing to release it just a few weeks after the Apollo 11 landing where people got to see the real thing and therefore highlighted the movies shortcomings even more.
