Michael Fassbender was cast as Dan Frost with Joel Edgerton cast as John Bishop. Due to several delays to the film's production, Fassbender had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with X-Men - Giorni di un futuro passato (2014). Director Lynne Ramsay then recast Edgerton as Frost and cast Jude Law as Bishop. Ramsay subsequently left the production and Law also quit, because he had joined the film to work with Ramsay. Ramsay was replaced by Gavin O'Connor. Bradley Cooper was then cast as Bishop but was also forced to drop out as filming on American Hustle - L'apparenza inganna (2013) went overschedule. Ewan McGregor was then cast as Bishop.
