George Roy Hill and the studio were toying with making Simon & Garfunkel's "Feelin Groovy" (the H.R. Pufnstuf (1969) song) the theme song. This sounds ridiculous, using a hippie-ish late 1960s up-tempo folk song as the theme song of a Western taking place at the turn of the century. (Although Katharine Ross' and Robert Redford's hair cuts in this movie are also pretty anachronistic!)
