The filming schedule was supposed to last 135 days but grew to 160 days. Filming began on July 31, 1996 and ended on March 23, 1997 after 7 months, 34 weeks or 243 days of filming. Exhaustion became an issue near the end of filming, as long working hours and several all-nighters had to be done to rush the film to completion. Director James Cameron, who had sworn of caffeine because it did not improve his personality, had to take regular vitamin B12 supplements and drank wheat-grass in order to keep up his energy.
