Although practically the whole movie is based around him as a serial killer, Hannibal Lecter only kills three people during the movie: Matteo (the Sardinian thug) Gnocco (the thief trying to get his fingerprint) and Inspector Pazzi. Paul Krendler's fate is left ambiguous, although even if he survived, he'd be no more than a vegetable. It's also implied that Lecter also killed the curator whom he replaces, but this has happened before the movie's timeline. So Clarice Starling kills more people than him in this movie.In Il silenzio degli innocenti (1991), Lecter has less than 25 minutes of screen time, but still kills five people during this time: Two security guards, the paramedic, the ambulance driver (unseen) and a tourist (also unseen).
