Gus, threatening to punch Larry, says he "once went nine rounds with John Sullivan." John L. Sullivan was a bare knuckle fighter, gloved boxer, and heavyweight champion in the 1880s and 1890s. Sullivan died in 1918, two years before Mickey Rooney was born.
