In its native Canada, the movie was given bad distribution and little marketing by its distributor Cineplex Odeon Films, which resulted in the movie being a box office flop there. Later, however, the movie became a box office hit in France. But because the movie's Canadian producers had earlier sold the French film rights for a small flat fee, they never got to share any of the massive French box office revenue.
