It has been noted that Roman Holiday is similar in plot to Frank Capra's Accadde una notte (1934). To wit: A young woman of privilege feels confined by her velvet chains so runs away. She meets a newspaper reporter who is on the outs with his boss and needs a big story to save his career. He decides to help the young runaway girl fulfill her dreams and thereby get his big story. During their relationship they fall in love and he ends up not doing the story.
