Hugh O'Brian appeared uncredited in the film as the USAAF major with whom "Liz Eddington" (Barbara Bouchet) is having an affair prior to the Pearl Harbor attack. The role, while important to the plot, is essentially a cameo, and O'Brian was, by 1965, a well-known actor; he was unbilled at his own request. Otto Preminger felt that a strong actor was required to make a vivid impression in just a few minutes of screen-time, especially as Bouchet was an inexperienced actress at the start of her Hollywood career. O'Brian agreed to do it, not for his usual salary but in return for a large donation to a charity he supported.
