Research for Apt Pupil was provided by Leslie Swift of the US Holocaust Museum (Washington, DC), the Martyrs Memorial and Museum of the Holocaust (Los Angeles, CA), Michael Berenbaum (as "Bernbaum") of SHOAH (formerly Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation), and The Tolerance Museum, all Holocaust survivor groups and research organizations based in the United States and all given a special thanks in the end credits of the film. Another special thanks was given to Richard Dreyfuss, an actor whose parents had been Hungarian-Russian Jewish immigrants during WWII.
