Alec Guinness was initially reluctant to accept a percentage as every previous film where he had done this had been a flop, but agreed to take 2%. On the day before the film opened, George Lucas gave Guinness another 0.25% as thanks for improving the dialog. That extra 0.25% turned out to be worth nearly $2 million.
