Since the sequel project was canceled, the closest thing we got to a sequel was the holiday-themed short film made to promote some companies, depending on where you live (US promotes Xfinity, UK promotes Sky Channel), "ET Comes Home for the Holidays." In this short film, ET comes back to Earth, and guess what? He lands in adult Elliot's yard. He now has a wife and kids, but that doesn't stop Elliot from remembering the lovable alien he knew as a kid. He introduces ET to the family and modern-day objects, and they all bond over the holidays.
