The film originally featured Claire Redfield as one of the main characters in the original script. Gina Philips was originally cast as Claire Redfield, but dropped out before production began, and was replaced by Emily Bergl who also left the project due to scheduling conflicts. The character was eventually scrapped from Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) once Emily Bergl dropped out from the role and a suitable actress could not be found in time. Claire Redfield would surface as a character in Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), this time played by Ali Larter.
