Two of the major subplots that were filmed, and subsequently cut out of the film were Oz and Heather cheating on each other and the character of Stifler's Dad played by the late Chris Penn.Publicity materials leading up to the film's August, 2001 release promoted the casting of Penn heavily and the film's website even contained downloadable soundbites featuring dialogue from scenes that would eventually be cut from the final film.The original cut of the film was finalized by July, 2001 and preview audiences showed that these subplots were not good for an American Pie film. With less than a month before the film's release, the producers reshot and retooled the script by having Oz and Heather not break up and instead attempt phone sex with humorous results and eliminated Chris Penn's character of Stifler's Dad entirely, replacing him with Eli Marienthal reprising his role of Stifler's Little Brother from the first American Pie.These scenes have never been edited into any kind of 'Directors' or 'Alternate' cut of the film, but can be seen on the promotional DVD 'Beneath the Crust Volume 2' and 'American Pie Revealed' DVD.
