Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have revealed why they chose for Asgard's God of Thunder to stay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "Thor has sacrificed and sacrificed and lost and lost," Markus explained to Vanity Fair. "It's not a good ending to kill him. He referred to Thor being "finally, reasonably content with himself-and with his current weight, by the way," as a much more satisfying place for the character. Markus and McFeely also added that they could have had a "bloodbath" for the OG Avengers, Stark, Natasha Romanoff, Thor, Clint Barton (Hawkeye), Bruce Banner (Hulk) and Steve Rogers (Captain America). But, they chose not to as it would have been "even more depressing" and they wanted to end some of the characters' stories on a more hopeful note. Discussing Thor and Hawkeye's fates, Markus explained: "There's a joy in letting him [Thor] go off aimlessly into the ends of the universe. "And Clint [Barton] got his family back, and that's something. That's the whole reason he was doing it."
