Michael Douglas felt the criticism he received at the time of the film's release was unfair, as he did not direct the movie, nor write the screenplay. Elizabeth Berkley expressed the same frustration a few years later after Showgirls (1995), made by the same director (Paul Verhoeven) and writer (Joe Eszterhas), basically ruined her career.
