Right from the beginning, directors Don Bluth and Gary Goldman wanted to film this movie in CinemaScope to give this movie the right scope, vision, and depth the story needed. This movie marked the first movie to be completely shot in CinemaScope since A noi piace Flint (1967). Bluth and Goldman used CinemaScope, one more time, to film their next and final movie, Titan A.E. (2000). Titan A.E. (2000) was the last movie to be filmed in CinemaScope until Frozen - Il regno di ghiaccio (2013).
