The only adaptation of the novel to not feature the character Norma Watson. In the 1976 version, she filled in for Tina Blake, who was relegated to the background as an extra, as Chris's best friend and secondary antagonist; in the 2002 version she serves the role that she has from the novel. In this version, the characters of Heather and the twins are composite characters; they have some of Norma's characteristics.
