According to the Russo brothers, they scripted a scene where the 2014 Thanos would go back in time to 2012 New York City and decapitate the 2012 Captain America. During his reveal to the Avengers before the final fight, he would toss over the 2012 Steve's head to the foot of the 2023 Steve, just to weaken the Avengers mentally. Marvel Studios chairman Kevin Feige ordered them to scrap the sequence due to its violent content and a potential R-rating. Also, the Russos thought the film was already dark enough, considering the 2018 Thanos getting beheaded by Thor was already violent. They thought as Feige went through the similar rating issues with The Avengers (2012), he wouldn't take the risk again.
