Mr. Freeze/Dr. Victor Fries first appeared (under an alias) in Batman #121 (February 1959), created by writer Dave Wood and artist Sheldon Moldoff. The character was significantly revamped by the writers of the 1960s "Batman" television series. He gained an origin story and sympathetic motivations when he appeared in "Batman: The Animated Series", with his origin provided by writer Paul Dini. Fries is typically portrayed as an expert in cryogenics, the production and behavior of materials at very low temperatures.
