Despite being an actress for over 40 years, this marks the first time in her career that Meryl Streep has ever done a sequel. It took a while for her to commit to the project, as she never thought that there would be a second round. This movie's two-pronged storyline in the style of The Godfather: Part II (1974) was not only to freshen up the narrative, but also to keep the original cast in place, as it allowed Streep's participation to be reduced and introduce a younger cast.
