In 1997, when Rob Bottin agreed to direct, New Line was so confident with Bottin as director, a teaser trailer splicing clips of Nightmare 4 - Il non risveglio (1988), Nightmare - Nuovo incubo (1994), and Jason va all'inferno (1993) was shown at ShoWest '97, announcing the director and a 1998 release with reports of the crowd cheering. Posters were leaked with the 1998 release date as McFarlane Toys made a deal to make figures for the movie with the designs matching their looks for the movie. After it was reported the script needed to be altered, the toys, planned as a 2 pack had to be separate releases and changing the movie titled to their franchise's names for their Movie Maniacs line released in 1998. (Some had point out that the figures doesn't resemble their movie appreances the boxes made out like Jason not resembling how he looked for Jason Goes to Hell.) And the Freddy figure originally intended to have a mini-Freddy that was based on a scene in a script that had to be altered as the Puppet Freddy from Nightmare 3 at the last minute. Although in 1999, the figures were re-released in a 2 packed set as originally intended for the movie but as blood painted variets.
