After the initial release of "Episode IV: A New Hope", Lucas thought it was about "25%" of what he had originally envisioned for his series, but he could not accomplish what he had in mind due to technological expectations of the time. It turned out that most viewers found the original editions to be preferable to the newer, CGI modified versions, which added a whole new slew of gaffes including objects and animals without shadows, animals that left no tracks and technology that was highly anachronistic.
