This project was delayed after Steven Spielberg took over A.I.: Artificial Intelligence from the late Stanley Kubrick. Before that, Cate Blanchett was committed to playing Agatha. Tom Cruise had appeared in Kubrick's final film, Eyes Wide Shut. Blanchett provided a voice for that film's infamous orgy scene, a role that Cruise and Kidman offered her, as Kubrick had already died.
