In this movie, Gene Hackman plays the President of the United States, the same role that his character from Superman (1978), Lex Luthor, would go on to fulfill years later (in the 2000s) in the comics. In Superman III (1983), also starring Hackman, E. G. Marshall made a brief appearance as the President.
