The action starts on Dec. 3, 1941, which is the date Rick used when signing a cafe-related document in the first nightciub scene. It ends at the airport two nights later, on Dec. 5, which just happens to be two days before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and propelled the United States into World War II.
