John Aprea's performance as Captain Andreas made a big impression on TV executives Miller & Boyett. They offered Aprea a role on Gli amici di papà (1987). Originally he was considered to be cast as Danny Tanner, but Boyett vetoed the decision and even threatened to dissolve the partnership. A compromise was reached and he was cast as Nick Katsopolis. It was John Aprea who came up with the idea for Pam Tanner (his daughter) to be killed by a drunk driver although he received no writing credit. Some say Miller and Boyett never fully recovered from this disagreement.
