Tara and Amber were meant to be ex-girlfriends in early drafts of the script. Some of this chemistry still remains in the final cut. The relationship was cut because it would have been too many references to the first film, as Tara being the one to finish off Amber would have been a reference to Sidney finally killing Billy in Scream (1996), their lovers who betrayed them. Mindy ended up being the LGBT character instead.
