The opening scene was paid homage to in an episode of the second season of the British drama series Skins (2007). Sid finds his father dead in his armchair, eyes open and looking straight ahead, gripping the arms of the chair with a cigarette burnt down to his fingertips. This is also how Pink is first introduced on screen in the film.
