When Pumba challenges the hyenas in the cave, he demands respect by angrily declaring, "They call me Mister Pig." This is a nod to Sidney Poitier's statement in La calda notte dell'ispettore Tibbs (1967) when, as detective Virgil Tibbs, he similarly demands respect.
