The alien life form is not aggressive - all the organic life forms which are not aggressive (plants, animals, peaceful people) become symbiotic with the alien life form, and they are ASSIMILATED. On the other side, the aggressive and self-destructing people are ANNIHILATED. Lena (Natalie Portman) as well as Josie (Tessa Thompson) deny all the aggressiveness and self-destruction, and so they are assimilated by the alien life form and not destructed, unlike the other women from the squad.
