The movie playing in the cinema at Alexanderplatz is Stalker (1979), a Soviet-made film about a professional guide who leads his clients on a clandestine trek through a surreal region called "the Zone" to reach a mysterious room where a person's innermost desire is granted. It's plausible that a ten-year-old film would be showing in East Berlin since entertainment options behind the Iron Curtain were notoriously limited. The large, colorful billboard outside the theater to advertise the film is a bit less likely.
