During the opening scenes of the film, there are shots of monkeys, a few chimpanzees, and an orangutan. The Empire State Building can also be seen in the background at the start of the montage of the Great Depression. The monkeys and apes foreshadow Kong who is a giant gorilla, and the Empire State Building in the background foreshadows the climax as Kong famously climbed the ESB. The song "Sitting on Top of the World" may also foreshadow the climax, as the ESB was the tallest building in the world at that time. To an extent, the primates at the start of the film may also foreshadow the reboot trilogy of Planet of the Apes which also starred Andy Serkis who played Kong.
