The film's title comes from a quote by John Paul Jones: "I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast, for I intend to go in harm's way." When Torrey is being briefed by "CNCPAC II" (presumably Nimitz), a painting of John Paul Jones can be seen hanging on the wall behind Nimitz's right shoulder.
