At the end of the movie, before realizing that he's about to become the new Zeus because he was bit by him, Van quotes Joseph Campbell, a renowned philosopher whose most famous work is the 'The Hero's Journey, a comprehensive look on the various story elements in myths. It is also revealed during the title sequence, Van has a Master's Degree in Philosophy.
