Justin Theroux got the role of Adam Kesher after he had met with director David Lynch directly after his long flight. Due to not getting enough sleep as a result of the lengthy flight, Theroux showed up dressed completely in black and with untidy hair. Lynch decided to have the character of Adam Kesher also be dressed completely in black and have an untidy hairstyle.
