The sets occupied a huge chunk of Pinewood Studios' 85 acres, and were kept standing for almost two years, in the hope that the sequel would be shot there. By the time Warner Bros. decided instead to film Batman - Il ritorno (1992) on their Burbank backlot, the UK sets were in a terrible state of disrepair, and had to be torn down. The third and fourth sequels were also filmed on the Warner Bros. sound stages, and it would be another fifteen years before a Batman movie would lense again in Britain, Batman Begins (2005).
