Luca Guadagnino (who was originally attached to the project as a producer back in 2008), was announced as a director at the 72nd Venice Film Festival on September 6, 2015. Guadagnino said that he was planning to bring the entire cast of his film A Bigger Splash (2015) for Suspiria, but only Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson returned for this movie.
